World Taekwondo has officially designated Taekwondowon as the Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center, marking a historic milestone in the digital evolution of the sport. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between World Taekwondo and the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF) to accelerate the development and global expansion of Virtual Taekwondo.
The signing ceremony took place at the World Taekwondo Headquarters in Seoul and was attended by World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue, Vice President Jinbang Yang, Secretary General Jeongkang Seo, TPF President Jungheon Kim, and other key representatives from both organizations.
This strategic partnership aims to actively promote Virtual Taekwondo, which integrates Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, positioning the discipline at the forefront of the rapidly evolving esports landscape. The initiative is expected to serve as a critical foundation for the inclusion of Virtual Taekwondo as an official Olympic Esports Games discipline, while transforming Taekwondo into a digitally-integrated global sport.

The newly designated Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center will become the world’s first dedicated esports training center for Taekwondo. Leveraging Taekwondowon’s world-class infrastructure and training expertise, the center will introduce a range of specialized programs, including:
• Certification courses for Virtual Taekwondo competition operators
• Development pathways for technical officials
• The launch of a Virtual Taekwondo Amateur League
• Structured education and training systems for global participants
Through World Taekwondo’s extensive international network, both organizations will collaborate to expand Virtual Taekwondo worldwide and establish a sustainable regulatory and institutional framework for its long-term growth.
World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue said:
“This agreement represents a pivotal turning point in preparing Taekwondo for the future. With the establishment of the Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center at Taekwondowon this year, Taekwondowon will emerge as a global hub for digital innovation in Taekwondo.”
In addition, a Host Contract Signing Ceremony for the 2026 World Para Taekwondo Championships, scheduled to take place from November 20–22 at Taekwondowon in Muju, was held alongside the MoU ceremony.
