Celebrating the 580th Hangeul Day
October 9th marks the 580th Hangeul Day, a national holiday established to commemorate King Sejong’s proclamation of Hunminjeongeum and to encourage the research and promotion of the Korean alphabet (Hangeul). On this day, we proudly hoist the national flag, Taegukgi.
The method for hoisting the Taegukgi on Hangeul Day is the same as other major national holidays and celebratory occasions.
When hoisting the flag, the flag (kitmyeon) must be attached closely to the top of the flagpole (gitbong) without leaving any gap.
